Something Lost in the Orwellian Translation

China will keep us safe from Taiwan's aggressive desires to be free.

BEIJING (AP) -- The state-controlled body for China's noncommunist groups on Saturday endorsed a proposed law authorizing military action to block Taiwan from pursuing formal independence, saying it would help to ensure regional peace.

Don't you feel all warm and fuzzy now?

Do you also ever wonder if AP writers have any independent thinking ability, or are simply, as apparently in this case, Beijing's mouthpiece?

More mouthpiece regurgitation by AP (does the AP really have to pay for their Beijing office space when they could simply read the Chinese News Agency's website from Dubuque?):

The advisory body said the law "is in the best interests of checking Taiwan separatist activities and of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the entire Asia-Pacific region."

Peace and stability throughout the entire Asia-Pacific region! Where would we be without our comrades in Beijing?

And Wow, Taiwan has separatist activities?!

Who Knew?!

And here I thought Taiwan has been free and independent from the mainland since 1949.

George Orwell would howl at Beijing's feigned love of Peace and Stability while Beijing attacks Taiwan's audacious yearning for (and maintenance of) Freedom for over half a century.
